Safety on Gather
In danger right now? Call 911. Thinking about suicide or in emotional crisis? Call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, US), any time, free and confidential. Outside the US, contact your local emergency number.
Meeting your crew in person
- Video-call first, then meet in a busy public place like a café, library or coworking space. Never at a private home for a first meeting.
- Tell a friend or family member where you're going, who you're meeting and when you'll be back.
- Arrange your own transport and keep your phone charged.
- Don't share your home address, financial details or ID documents.
- Never send money, crypto or gift cards to a member, or invest in their project because of pressure. That's a scam sign.
- Trust your instincts. You can leave any meeting or crew at any time, without explaining.
Online
- Gather never asks for your password or payment details in chat.
- Keep your private sign-in link secret.
- Be careful with links and files from people you just met.
Report and block
In your crew room, every message has report and block buttons. Blocking hides that person's messages from you and stops you being matched with them. Messages reported by two or more members are hidden automatically until reviewed. You can leave any crew at any time.
How we moderate
- Every report is reviewed by a person. We aim to act within 72 hours.
- Actions range from a warning to removing content, removing someone from a crew, or a permanent ban.
- Zero tolerance: threats, harassment, sexual content, anything involving minors, scams, hate speech and insulting any religion lead to an immediate ban.
- We cooperate with law enforcement when legally required or when someone is at risk.
